Chandimal's new baila medley
There are about 30 songs and the music arrangements and direction were done by Chandimal. The music was provided by his band 'The Second connection' and the voicing of the songs were by Chandana, Senaka and Shevidon of the band. "This is the second part of my first nonstop baila CD 'Temptation', released last year." Chandimal said. Chandimal has several 'firsts' to his credit. Chandimal is the first Sri Lankan to release a compact disk, first Double C/D, first video C/D and the only musician so far to have most number of C/Ds in Sri Lanka to his credit. At present his band 'Second Connection' is performing at JAIC Hilton, Intercontinental and Triton Hotel. His main ambition is to have a first open Air concert. "This will be a big concert and I am planning to use 300 speakers and output power of one hundred thousand watts. The concert is going to be free, to the public and the entire sponsorship money will be donated to a charity project of donating 500 artificial limbs to the Sri Lanka Army' he said. The group hopes to tour Doha, Dubai, Bahrain during March and April
on its sixth tour abroad.
Viva Mexico
The fiesta goes on for ten eventful days until the 20th of February, in the form of a buffet dinner. Exotic specialities from Mexico like Enchiladas, Tostadas, Tacos, Burrittos, etc. A duo of Mexican chefs, Sergio Snyder and Roberto Treves will be flown in specially for the occasion. These Mexican born chefs, are well known around the world for their exotic cuisine, which is enjoyed in over 85 countries. Chefs Sergio & Roberto dressed up like true Charros (cowboys), spring
some sensational Spanish numbers, dance, tell some tall Mexican tales and
teach how to drink Mexico's national drink, tequila.
Cinematic acclaim for Semage, Dissanayake
Padadaya has won a Special Jury Award given by the main jury of the festival and shared the NETPAC Award for the Best Asian Film with Saroja. The Audience Award of the festival was won by Saroja. Semage's Padadaya was made in 1999 and represented Sri Lanka in competitive sections of Kerala, Mumbai, Oslo, Pusan and New Delhi International Film Festivals and selected to be screened at the competitive section of the Buenos Aires Internationl Film Festival in Argentina. Saroja is a very new film made in 2000. Both films are debut feature films. Padadaya was presented by the Asian Film Centre and Saroja was presented by Renuka Balasuriya of Sri Lanka at the 6th Dhaka International Film Festival. The International Jury of the 6th Dhaka International Film Festival comprising of Budhadeb Dasgupta (India), Peter Cargin (Great Britain), Evelyn Vargas-Knaebel (Philippines), Shao-Yi Sun (U.S.A.), Kabir Anwar (Bangladesh) and Masihuddin Shaker (Bangladesh) and NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Jury comprising of Stephane Malandrin (France), Sudhir Bose (India) and Prof. Abdus Selim (Bangladesh). Dhaka International Film Festival has included a retrospective film festival of Prasanna Vithanage in this year's edition. Prasanna Vithanage, Linton Semage and Somaratne Dissanayake participated in the festival. |
