  • Downey had a hand in friend's arrest

  • Downey had a hand in friend's arrest

The man arrested along with Robert Downey Jr. recently is a friend of the actor, it has been revealed. Albert Aleixo, 45, was arrested on drug charges after Downey led police to his motel room.

Downey was arrested in Culver City, California after an officer on patrol spotted him "displaying symptoms consistent with stimulant use" in an alley between a cheap motel and a liquor store. The 36-year-old actor led officers to Aleixo, who was apparently staying in the $45-a-night Baldwin Motel after being evicted from his Venice, Calif., home.

Aleixo was "like an older brother" to the Ally McBeal star, according to the man's lawyer. "This isn't going to affect their 10-year friendship," attorney Peter Knecht told Reuters .

Downey was ordered to enter a live-in drug treatment facility for a minimum of six months, beginning immediately after completing an initial 72 hours of detox treatment in Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, a rep for 20th Century Fox Television, which co-produces Ally, said that Downey was not fired from the show by executive producer David E. Kelley shortly after his arrest.

Kelley, who gave Downey work immediately after his release from prison last fall, supported the actor throughout the months following his November arrest on drug charges.

Downey is currently facing a separate trial on drug charges stemming from his November arrest in Palm Springs, Calif. And Riverside County Superior Court Judge Randall White postponed Downey's scheduled court appearance, regarding his November arrest, until May 24.

Tough guy De Niro plays Mr. Softie

Robert De Niro usually plays the hard-as-nails guy onscreen, but when it comes to his real-life role as a dad, he's an absoulte creampuff! As these exclusive photos reveal, the star of Meet the Parents had a leisurely lunch at the posh Hotel Bel-Air with his on-again, off-again wife, Grace Hightower, 46, and their son Elliot, 3.

Also on hand were twins Aaron and Julian, 5, from his relationship with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith.

De Niro, 57, showed his tender side as he fussed over little Elliot, carrying him lovingly on his shoulders - while a blonde female friend and her two daughters smiled. "Robert looked like he was really bonding with his children. He dotes on those kids and has a lot of fun being a parent," a source said. "He cherishes the time he can spend with them and it really shows." Dressed casually and showing a little more grey than usual, the star who shot to fame with Taxi Driver hardly resembled one of Hollywood's busiest actors, says the source.

"He didn't look like a movie star. He looked like any regular dad who's got his hands full."

Jennifer Love Hewitt shuts out dad

Jennifer Love Hewitt's estranged dad would love to reconcile with his famous daughter, but he can't even get through to her on the phone to wish her a happy birthday. In fact, he's only been able to see his daughter, affectionately called Love, twice in the past 12 years!

"Last year I called Love in L.A. to wish her a happy 21st birthday," says caring dad Danny Hewitt, 61. "I got her mom Pat on the phone, and she told me that Love wasn't in. I asked her to please have her call me, but I never heard from her."

Danny's bond with Jennifer began to weaken when he and Pat divorced in 1980. Jennifer was 13 months old and went to live with her school teacher mom in Waco, Texas.

"The breakup was a devastating thing for a lot of the family," confides Danny, a biochemist. "Afterward, I would get together with Love as often as I could."

But when Jennifer was 10, Pat decided to move with her from Texas to California and test the showbiz waters. But before she could go, Danny had to make a huge sacrifice, one that has robbed him of the chance to see his daughter grow up. He had to agree to let his daughter move 1,500 miles from him.

Jennifer's grandma, Mary Hewitt, 84, recalls the heart-wrenching decision.

She says: "Love's older brother Todd, who was 18 at the time, Danny and I met for a discussion about her future. We agreed that we'd have to have a unanimous vote to allow Love to move away. "

Although he misses having seen his daughter grow up, he's happy she had the opportunity to fulfil her acting dream.

He says " I do realize that if our separation didn't happen, she might not have attained the success she has. And if it makes her happy, well, my daughter's happiness means the world to me."

He wonders, though, how happy his daughter could be with her new love, Alec Baldwin. "As a father, I think my daughter is a bit too young at 22 to be involved with a 42-year-old like Alec," he says.

"But I trust Love and I trust her mother, Pat. Love was raised right, and I'll always give credit to her mother, who's done a terrific job with our daughter."

Russell pumps up in portable gym

Gladiator hunk Russell Crowe has become a real gym dandy in a desperate bid to avoid turning into the Flabby-ator!

The 37-year-old actor has been working out daily with celebrity trainer Valerie Walters in a 48-foot-long, $50,000 portable gym called The Muscle Truck. It was driven from L.A. to New York, where he's filming a Beautiful Mind.

"Late nights, rich food, babes and beer have taken their toll. He woke up one morning and got the shock of his life. He told me, 'I could see the start of love handles. The old gut was getting a bit soft, mate!"

So Crowe called in The Muscle Truck, which is filled with high-tech workout equipment, including weight machines, a treadmill, an exercise bike, a punching bag and a rowing machine. It's parked next to his trailer on the movie set.

"Trainer Valerie's a real pro," confides another pal. "She's used The Muscle Truck to shape up stars like Kevin Spacey, Jim Carrey and Keanu Reeves. She told me, 'Russell's on the treadmill sweating off pounds. He's working out with the weight, rowing and biking machines every morning. He grumbled at first, but he's a real pro. He can't afford to get soft and it takes exercise to stay trim."

    Spiked or spooked?

    By Laila Nasry
If you happen to meet a guy who has hair sticking out in all directions, ahem...virtually standing on end, it's important to note that neither was he electrocuted -trying to fix a plug for his mum -nor was gravity playing tricks on him. He is just keeping in step with style and 'in' with the 'gel phase'.

Today it's not just girls who are conscious about the way they look. Even guys take a lot of pains, and go to great lengths about their appearance, and it seems they are well on their way to turning heads with their hair-raising fashions.

The slick wet look though it sounds like a process of fussing in front of the mirror, is just about swathing a bit of gel or wax over wet hair and then styling it according to the hair cut.

Gel is ideal for the wet look while wax does wonders to bring out the best of hair spikes ensuring a good look in minutes.

This trendy look is very popular among teenagers and young adults. "It has caught on fast among the upwardly mobile, yuppies who wear coloured shirts and carry mobile phones," says a hair dresser from Head Masters' Salon.

Very particular about how their hair looks, these fashion conscious guys avoid hair cuts at the barbers and instead opt for having their hair cut and styled at a salon every four weeks.

The hair cut best suited for this look is shorter at the sides and longer at the top. "Once we have cut a client's hair we show him how he can sculpture or texturise his hair on his own." It takes just 10-15 minutes with the right type of gel or wax and perfect hand movement.

"There are a number of brands available in supermarkets which suit one's purse and would last up to a month.

We use and recommend Soft Music Gel and Paul Mitchel hair wax," said thr hairdresser.

However it's important to note that the gel or wax should be applied to the hair and not to the scalp.

Wrong application could lead to dandruff as the gel or wax can clog the pores. Further it's important to wash off the gel properly. Leaving it on for a week will only attract dust and grime to one's hair.

Whoever thought a day would dawn when hair can stand on its own without one being spooked out?!!
