'Deveni Athmaya' on Sirasa
Director Sanath Abeysuriya has scripted and directed "Deveni Athmaya" a teleplay that goes through a long tortuous process of negotiating many a bend and curve till it finally unravels questions on life and death..

The miniplay is telecast every Tuesday at 8.30 pm on Sirasa TV.

The four friends Dedunu, Menik, Tania and Nadi decide to spend some time at Dedunu's grandparents home in Bandarawela hoping to find some enjoyment.

The owner of the bungalow, Gonadoowa Hamu had committed suicide. His wife (Premila Kuruppu) becomes reclusive and its watcher is 'Habaranaya' (D. B. Gongodathenna).

Dedunu unexpectedly undergoes changes in behaviour on her arrival at the bungalow and this makes her friends anxious.

Nadi (Anjula Rajapakse) has a frightening experience when she sees Dedunu in a room but keeps it to herself. Dedunu's grandmother also had committed suicide in the same room.

Police advice Dedunu and friends to remain there till the murder is solved.

Prarthana and Gunasekara (Damitha Abeyratne and Sanjaya Leelaratne) the servants of Keeragla estate are in charge since Mr. and Mrs. Keeragala are away in Colombo.

Taking the opportunity Gunasekara decides to molest Prarthana but panics when she starts bleeding and faints. Thinking that she was dead plans to bury her. When Gunasekara goes to the town he happens to see Dedunu, Prarthana's double. He is surprised thinking that the dead has resurrected and Gunasekara decides to entice Dedunu back home.

Others in the main cast are Roma Rosi, Dhammi Chamika, Sriyani Amerasena, Asela Jayakodi, Sandun Wijesiri and Chithra Warakagoda.

Udayakantha's new venture
Muhurath ceremony of "Blood and Tears" (Le Kiri Kandulu) a film by Udayakantha Warnasuriya was held recently.

The cast here include some veteran stars like Tony Ranasinghe and Sriyani Amerasena. Others playing major parts are Sanath Gunathilake, Nilmini Tennakoon, Nisanasala Jayathinuge and Buddhika Jayaratne.

'Blood and Tears' revolves around an executive officer, Jayananda who meets with an accident with a vehicle carrying a pregnant woman, Veena. She suffers a miscarriage which makes the mother to act against Jayanande as well as the existing legal system. The filming is scheduled within this month in locations in and around Colombo.

In the technical crew are Jananath Gunawardena handling the camera and Stanley De Alwis does the editing. To the music of Sangeeth Wickremasinghe, Amerasiri Peiris renders a background song.


'Rangamadala Samugani': Ranwala's last act

It was a truly a final curtain call for Lionel Ranwala, when he acted with his son as a music master in "Ranga Madala Samugani". It's telecast every Thursday at 9.00 pm on Swarnavahini channel.

Mr. Ranwela who rendered yeoman service to Sri Lankan folk music had acted in a number of teledramas like "Pramada Wedi" which was highly acclaimed by the audience.

Although Sarojini Rajanayaka owns a palatial house by the river "Kaluganga" , Frank Rajanayke, her husband controls the estate.

Frank is a philanderer but Sarojini is his opposite.

Their two children Sujatha and Sudara are more attached to the mother due to her kindness towards them and the indifference of the father.

Sarojini was a popular stage artiste and was in love with Narendra although they didn't marry. Narendra decides to remain a bachelor. and they occasionally meet secretly to talk about their past. Sarojini still pines for her first love.

Frank uses Sarojini's wealth for his playboy type life style. Most of the beautiful women who work in the estate are victims of Frank's excesses. He uses Abeylath his driver who acts as his henchman to get rid of any unwanted complications. The reasons of mysterious deaths that occur in the village are known only to Frank and Albert.

Sujatha, their daughter attends an art class although Frank does not approve of it. She falls in love with a poor fellow student, Channa. Sujatha is barred from going out when Frank gets to know of the affair. Sarojini attempts to help her. Meanwhile Frank instructs Albert to get rid of Channa. As a result Channa disappears suddenly. Sujatha grieves over the loss, but Frank is unmoved. He plans to give Sujatha in marriage to a friend's son.

Sarojini seeks Narendra's help in desperation. As a result of his efforts, Channa is found. Frank realises the connection between Sarojini and orders Sarojini not to leave the house. Chutte is a domestic aid who finds out that all the crimes were planned by Frank and carried out by Albert. Knowing the hardship that Sarojini has to undergo he kills Albert. Frank in this anger hands Chutte over to the law. Narendra visiting Frank reveals his relationship with Sarojini asks him to be more lenient with Sujatha. Frank is adamant.

Sarojini with the help of Narendra gets Sujatha married.

What will happen when Frank finds this out ? What is the destiny in life?

The stellar cast in 'Ranga Madala Samu Gani' are Vasanthi Chathurani, Janaka Kumbukage, Ananda Wickremage, Richard Weerakkody, Manel Vanaguru, Liyoni Kothalawela, Nilanthi Wijesinghe and Buddi Wickremage. The script is by Kingsley Loas and Laxman wickramatilake handles the camera. The art director is K. A. Milton Perera. The film is edited by Daya Punchihewa and is a production of Bandula Weerakkody. The direction is by Milton Jayawardena.

Wedding Night report
Wedding Night Report is the latest movie to hit the screen at New Olympia.

A comedy classic based on the similar lines of the yesteryears comedy series 'The Carry' on Serial Directed by Hubert Frank, 'Wedding Night Report is all about a wedding party that get stranded in an old motel after their son's wedding since the bridge to the castle where they were to spend their night was washed off due to heavy rains.

Each couple has a funny story to relate on their experience on the first night of their wedding day.

For some its success and others its all a failure. Some say a bed is not what it's all about even a tree would do....

Who is Suresh?
Suresh Gamage plays the key role in "Surapurata Kanyaviyak" directed by Mario Jayatunge now being screened in cinemas around the country.

Making his debut in the film 'Salupata Ahasata' under the same director he had played roles in the films titled 'Disco Girl', Salupata Ahsata-11', 'Kawuda Bole Allis' and 'Unusum Rathriya'.
A student of D. S. Senanayake College, he acted in school dramas.

He also studied eastern music as a subject there.
Later moving on to films Suresh started his career as a dancer under the tutelage of Baratha Natya maestro Mrs. Vigneshwari Harichchandram, an Indian artiste with his 'Aranketram' (debut) several years ago.

Suresh also had studied other dancing forms like Latin American.
