Jayantha
and Ooshadie to prop Bhutan cricket
Former Sri Lanka Cricketer and present Nalanda coach Jayantha Seneviratne
and Ooshadie Weersinghe, that outstanding former Ananda and Bloomfield
all-rounder has been nominated by the Asian Cricket Council to help
coach and prop newcomers to cricket - Bhutan. Both Seneviratne and
Weerasinghe have been contracted for three months by the ACC.
Both have a
storehouse of knowledge to develop the game on and off the field.
Ooshadie at present is the Bloomfield C and AC Cricket Coach in
the Premier league. The Reid Avenue Club is doing pretty well in
the ongoing season. He is a qualified coach and has done much spadework
with the junior national teams. Meanwhile Jayantha besides being
a highly qualified coach has served as a curator too.
Both players
were recommended by former Sri Lanka fast bowler Romesh Ratnayake.
At present he is helping Bhutan cricket. It's part of the ACC programme
supported by the ICC to boost the sport in the Asian region where
there is a great following. Roy Dias, the former Sri Lanka stalwart,
is coaching Nepal.
The duo is
expected to leave on Jan 30. During Seneviratne's absence Nalanda
Cricketers will be assisted by Shamme Tillekewardena, while S Illangaratnam
will oversee the Bloomfield team.-BW
Bloomfield
thrash Panadura inside two days

Table Leaders Bloomfield proved their mettle in no uncertain terms
when they drubbed Panadura SC by eight wickets inside two days in
their Premier League game at Reid Avenue yesterday.
Helped by a
fine century from Dumida Perera Bloomfield took a commanding 131-run
first innings lead and were all out for 223.Left hander Perera was
in good touch stroking 11 boundaries and two sixes in his 101, which
enabled Bloomfield to build a match-winning total.
Batting for
the second time Panadura made a valiant attempt but were up against
some good medium pace bowling from Dharshana Gamage and Kaushalya
Weeraratne.The duo shared six wickets between them with Weeraratne
picking up 4 for 55 and ripping the top order of the Panadura batting
line up.
Despite half
centuries from Chamara Silva,Amila Perera and Chamath Perera Panadura
were bowled out for 205.Bloomfield knocked off the required 75 runs
for victory for the loss of two wickets to notch up their fourth
outright victory for the season.

Galle
stun CCC
Galle CC continued their fighting performance when they hit up 259
for 9 wickets in their second innings against CCC at Maitland Crescent
yesterday.
After taking
a slender three-run lead on Friday, Galle made their hosts CCC to
fight as their batsmen batted with purpose to put up a match winning
second innings total. A 97-run third wicket stand between Ridegammanagedara
(52) and Chamil Perera(46) and a further 75-run stand for the 6
th wicket between Pasan Wanasinghe (56) and Ruwan Galapathi(39)
helped Galle CC to 259 for 9 wickets by the close.

fight back
BRC fought back to have Moors SC tottering at 24 for 4 wickets after
conceding first innings points at Braybrooke Place yesterday.
Earlier in
the day Moors did well to restrict BRC to 159 and take a vital 57-run
first innings lead.Chandika Hathurusinghe was the pick of the bowlers
taking 4 for 37.But their joy was shortlived as BRC came back strongly
to have Moors at 24 for 4 wickets by the close.
