"Jeevithayata Ida Denna"
Deals on several topics popular among youth
"Jeewithayata Ida Denna" is a popular programme covering number of topics on different issues screened from 1.00 to 4.00 pm every Sunday on Sirasa TV.

The programme is directed by Dhammika Fonseka assisted by Viraj Waliwatte and Varuna Jayanath. The presenters are Narada Bakmeewewa and Oshadee Hewamadduma.

The main programme title "Jeewithayata Ida Denna" runs from 1.00 pm to 3.00 pm including a number of sub programmes. A discussion by two journalists from tabloid newspapers on the articles published in the relevant week is apopular programme and "Business Today", a discussion on current business happenings is another interesting programme.

'Now showing' brings out cultural and entertainment news including the release of latest films, theatre productions and exhibitions of paintings and photography.

The two segment programmes 'Esi Disi Satahan'- 'Dark Room' is produced by Kelum Kumara Perera while "Visammuthiya" is produced by Rashmin Ranasinghe.

The main programme of Jeewathayata Ida Denna discussing the current issues and events is produced by Joe Seneviratne and Dhamma Dissanayake.

'Asuru Sanin' brings out the top ten popular songs of the week aired from 3.00 pm to 4.00pm.

Each week presents a relevant topic. The journalists discuss special themes according to the week or according to relevant events.


'Nightmare' on Dynavision
What begins as a normal school day ends in horror for Dana Hemmings when the young girl is forced into a car and told she will never see her home again. When the girl's mother, Linda, realizes her daughter is missing, she summons the police led by Detective Jake Willman. He barely has time to finish his report, when Dana suddenly appears at the front door.

Trembling and shaken, she says she escaped her kidnapper after he stopped at a traffic light. Her eyes widen as she reveals the man's identity, Eddie Ryter, the father of one of her school friends.

The following day Ryter is arrested for kidnapping and attempted sexual assault.

When he is allowed to make one phone call, he seizes the opportunity to call Linda, threatening her daughter further. His message is clear. One day he will return and take Dana again, and this time her body will never be found.

Ryter is a man true to his word. After a judge releases him on bail, he begins to stalk Linda and her daughter. His car is always parked across the street from their house. His face appears at windows.

With detective Willman as an ally, Linda begins to piece together Ryter's past. Together they learn about the mysterious deaths of two young girls - both of whom disappeared when Eddie Ryter lived nearby.

As the hunter becomes the hunted, drama leads to murder and deception in a frightening race against time.

'Chicago' storms Majestic Cinema

A significant occasion in the local film world will takes place, when the Oscar winning film hits the Majestic Cinema, Colombo.

For the first time in Sri Lanka a film, which has won so many Academy Awards will be screened locally within two months of the world renowned Awards Festival, which was held on March 23, 2003 in the USA. That was the 75th Annual Acadamy Awards Festival.

MC will be screening the film for the local audience from May 23.

Based on the award-winning musical by John Kander, Fred Ebb Frosse, "Chicago" is a stunning spectacle full of intrigue, love, betrayal, rivalry and friendship, a pageant of music and dance that adroitly shifts between reality and fantasy.

This blockbuster film is a wholesome and entertaining for the whole family.

The windy City's promise of adventure and opportunity dazzle Roxie Hart, an outwardly innocent performer who dreams of singing and dancing her way out of her life of boredom. Roxie's one wish is to follow in the golden footsteps of vaudeville performer Velma Kelly.

Roxie gets her wish when some very wrong steps land both the star and starlet in prison for separate murder charges.

Under the crooked care of the prison Matron Morton, Roxie meets up with legendary lawyer Billy Flynn.

He agrees to take Roxie's case for an immodest fee. Roxie's career explodes, to the chagrin of her mentor. But the clever Miss Kelly had a few surprises left as Roxie's world moves from the prison to the courtroom to the stage.

Nominated for 13 awards Chicago bagged six awards including Best Film-Best Supporting Actress (Catherine Zeta Jones), Best Editing, Best Sound, Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.

Released by MIRA-MAX International, "Chicago" also stars the Golden Globe Award Winner for the Best Actor in the lead role - Richard Gere, besides, Renee Zellwegger and is directed by Rob Marshall.

In the trivia, John Travolta, Kevin Spacey and Hugh Jackman were all considered for the role Billy Flynn while Madonna, Goldie Hawn, Kathy Bates, Rosie O'Donnel, Nicole Kidman Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameror Diaz and Britney Spears competed for roles.

'Living Free' at Russian Centre
'Living Free', one of the popular movies of yesteryear will be screened at the Russian Centre auditorium on Saturday, May 24, at 6.00 pm.

'Living Free' is the sequel to the 1967 hit movie 'Born Free'. 'Living Free' continues the story of Elsa, the lioness and the people who raised her. George and Joy Adamson return to East Africa and find that their once tame house pet Elsa, the lioness, has given birth to three cubs. Unfortunately, Elsa has some type of infection and dies leaving her cubs orphaned.

Joy and George are heartbroken but are determined to keep their distance from Elsa's cubs, so that they may remain wild and free. Staying away proves harder than they thought.
