Pakistani Silhouettes
By Nedra Wickremesinghe
The Golden Ballroom of the Colombo Plaza was a burst of colour when Sri Lankan Airlines together with the Lion Ladies of the Lions Club of Colombo presented ‘Silhouettes’, a fashion show to mark the 22nd anniversary of ‘Eve’, an annual fundraiser.

Pakistani designer Nazneen Tariq Khan’s collection of fine couture comprising sarees, shalwars and bridals saw exquisite fabrics in a riot of colour. Her work was mostly hand-crafted with accents on thread work and hand embroidery embellished with Zardosi, beads, sequins and jewels on pure silks, chiffons, crepes and organzas. The shalwars and dupattas in silk and chiffon dedicated to the woman who is sensuous and stylish, saw a profusion of colours ranging from the very elegant subdued white to exotic and vibrant purple, blue and green.

The grand finale saw one of the three hand-crafted traditional Pakistani bridal outfits made from very heavy silk being auctioned at Rs 25,000 with all proceeds going to the Hope Cancer Hospital project.
