Maduranga bowls Trinity to victory

Trinity beat St Aloysius Galle by an innings and 87 runs in their Elephant Lemonade Trophy match at Asgiriya yesterday. Maduranga Munaweera, a slow medium pace bowler was almost unplayable as he took match figures of 12-63. Mohamed Muneer had a good game all round, with an unbeaten 50 and six wickets in the match.
Ruwan Ranthilake was the only batsmen to make an impression for St Alloysius , scoring 15 not out and 41.

This was Trinity's first outright win after a lapse of about four years. Trinity 223: (M.Muneer 50 n.o., S.Pathirana 49, C.Punchihewa 36, C.Fernando 15, S.Ariyaratne 16; L.R.Kumara 4 for 60, P.Chaturanga 2 for 28, H.Jayasekara 2 for 50).

Dilruk guides Isipatana to major honours

An unbeaten knock of 49 by Isipatana number nine batsman Gihan Dilruk helped them take major honours against St. Peter's in their Lemonade Trophy inter-school match that ended in a draw at Bambalapitiya, yesterday.

St. Peter's continuing from their overnight total of 112 for 9 held on to make 136 in their first innings with number ten batsman Sohan Boralessa making a fighting knock of 22 runs. Isipatana who scored 163 runs in their first innings made 209 runs in their second. St. Peter's were 16 for no loss when play ended.

Sokian tailenders survive to hold Royal

Despite miry conditions in a game of fluctuating fortunes, Royal College playing their first schools game for the season produced exciting cricket at Reid Avenue yesterday.
Royal taking the field sans two keys players - skipper Taraka Kottehewa and allrounder Ganganath Rathnayake who have been picked for the forthcoming Under-19 tour to Pakistan.

The team was led by standin captain Naveen Dias. Dharmasoka, too without their key batsman Upul Tharanga . Dharmasoka winning the toss invited Royal to take first lease of the pitch. Royal were bowled out for 148 thanks to a stubborn knock of 43 coming from Dias. The Sokians in reply had to fight hard for runs against a varied Royal attack. Fresher Dulanjaya Wijeratne playing in his first schools match made it a dream debut. With his offspinners (5 for 40) ably supported by Punchihewa (3 for 17) The visitors were 141 for 9 at the close. Resuming their innings the Sokians were bowled out for 141 without any addition to their overnight total. Royal in their second essay were 81 for 3 at lunch.

Again Naveen Dias was the mainstay of their batting. He held the batting together before Royal declared at 185 for 9 just before tea leaving the visitors 192 to make in 28 overs. Dharmasoka ran into a storm against Chaturanga Somapala who had a fine opening spell to capture 4-22.

St. Sebastian's crush J'pura MMV by innings
St. Sebastian's coming out for the first time this season were home for tea when they crushed Sri Jayawardenapura MMV by an innings and 51 runs in their Elephant Lemonade Cup inter-school cricket match concluded at Moratuwa yesterday. The Sebs were well placed to pull off an early win yesterday having bowled the visitors out for 67 and replying with 206 for 5 at the end of the first day’s play.

Play began only at 12 noon yesterday with the home team declaring on their overnight score. Sri Jayawardenapura MMV going in to bat the second time with a deficit of 139 runs which was a daunting task found spinner Dunil Abeydeera unplayable and folded up for 88. Dunil ended with figures of 6 for 42 giving him a match bag of 8 for 44 in the match.

First innings win for Kingswood
Kingswood registered a first innings win over D.S. Senanayake in the Elephant Lemonade Cup cricket encounter concluded at Wijerama Mawatha. Kingswood taking first lease of the wicket scored 244 and then bowled out the home side for 178.
Kingswood 244 (N. Jayasuriya 41, I. Senaratne 51, D. Dahanayake 41; Dinesh de Silva 5 for 38, Dasun Perera 4 for 43) and 16 for 1 at close.
