MCA beat Combined Media

The MCA Ex-Co team led by Neil Perera won the challenge cup at the inaugural 30 overs limited cricket encounter between the Mercantile Cricket Association Ex-Co team and the Combined Media team held on Sunday, October 12, at the MCA grounds.

The Combined Media comprising of all leading Newspaper Companies and TV establishments gave the strong MCA team a good run. The match was keenly contested and concluded successfully amidst a large gathering.

This is the first ever encounter of this nature which was organized, and will henceforth be an annual feature. All trophies were presented by the ABC Group of Companies. The man of the match award was won by Jerry Woutersz, and the best bowlers award went to Wasantha Siriwardene (both of the Combined Media team).

The best batsman was Wasanthalal Fernando of MCA. Combined Media batting first posted 103 for 7 in 30 overs. MCA Ex-Co made 104 losing 6 wickets in the process.

An all-round performance by Jerry Woutersz (Combined Media) who made a fine 60 and captured 2 wickets was judged the Man of the Match. A fine spell of bowling by Wasantha Siriwardene (Combined Media) capturing 3 for 19 won the best bowler's award. The best batsman award was won by Wasantha Fernando. A social followed after the award.
