giant Reggie dies
The razzle dazzle world of advertising lost one of its most celebrated
figures yesterday with the death of Reggie Candappa at the age of
84. Starting as a cartoonist in Lake House in the 1940s Reggie Canadappa
went far beyond his artistic caricatures to build one of Sri Lanka's
advertising giants-Grant McCann Erickson.

Candappa early in his carreer as an artist, journalist and photographer
showed the extraordinary allround potential that helped him later
to turn Grants into a market leader and key player in the multi-million
rupee multimedia advertising industry.
Well-known and
widely respected Reggie Candappa also played a dynamic role in social
life as the head of the Colombo Club and the Colombo Chetty Association
and patron of the George Keyt Association among other associations.
He had two daughters Neela and Sriyani, both of whom followed their
father into the blaze of the advertising world.
Neela Marikkar
is now the Managing Director of Grant McCann Erickson while Sriyani
Tindball is the Managing Director of Minds FBC and is a lecturer
in architecture in the US. Reggie Candappa's body is now lying at
his residence, 15A Anderson Road, Colombo 5 and the funeral will
take at the General Cemetery, Kanatte at 4.00 p.m. on Monday. |
