Award winning film 'Secretary' starring Golden Globe nominee
actress Maggie Gyllenhaal is now screened at the New Olympia in
Maradana from December 6.
The film depicts
the poignant feelings of a human being and Maggie Gyllenhaal gives
a successful performance as Lee Holloway. Earning nominations and
winning several awards as best actress in many international festivals
Maggie Gyllenhaal earned the Golden Globe nomination-2003 from the
Hollywood Foreign Press Association for Best Actress-Comedy or Musical
for her daring performance in "Secretary." Playing opposite
James Spader she also won Best Actress (Runner-up) at National Society
of Film Critics- 2002 and was nominated as the Best Actress at IFP
Independent Spirit Award for her performance.
The director,
Steven Shainberg's first feature film was 'Hit Me' and his second
got him the winner of a Special jury Prize for originality at 2002
Sundance International Film Festival and was nominated at IFP Independent
Spirit Award 2002. The director worked as an independent producer
before entering the American Film Institute, where he directed three
short films. The last of these, The Prom, won the Grand Prize at
the Houston International Film Festival and the Critic's Award at
the Breckenridge Festival of Film in Colorado.
Lee Holloway
is a smart, quirky woman in her twenties who returns to her hometown
in New Jersey after a brief stay in a mental hospital. In search
of relief from herself and her oppressive childhood environment,
she starts to date a nerdy friend from high school and takes a job
as a secretary in a local law firm. She soon develops an obsessive
crush on her older boss, Mr. Grey. Through their increasingly bizarre
relationship, Lee follows her deepest longings to the heights of
masochism and finally to a place of self-affirmation.

1969 Classic "Italian Job" is now on at the Liberty Cinema.

Zipping through
tunnels, careening down sidewalks and going where no car and human
have gone before. "The Italian Job" gives the popular
'Mini' car a new meaning to "run for the money" in one
of the best chase scenes ever captured on film.
To coincide
with the release of the film on Friday, December 6 'Mini Car' Parade
was also organised in the city of Colombo.
Mark Wahlberg,
Charline Theron, Donald Sutherland, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Mos
Def and Jason Statham, star in this new "The Italian Job"
directed by Gary Gray.
The story revolves
around a billion dollar gold heist from Italy.
Their plan was
flawless - the job was executed perfectly... the escape was clean.
The only threat mastermind thief Charlie Croker (Mark Wahlberg)
never saw coming from a member of his own crew.
After pulling
off an amazing gold bullion heist from a heavily guarded palazzo
in Venice, Italy, Charlie and his gang inside man Steve (Edward
Norton), computer genius Lyle (Seth Green), wheelman Handsome Rob
(Jason Statham), explosives expert Left-Ear (Mos Def) and veteran
safecracker John Bridger (Donald Sutherland) - can't believe it
when one of them turns out to be a double-crosser. Now the job isn't

Stella, the
daughter of John Bridger (Charlize Theron), a beautiful nerves-of-steel
safecracker, who joins Charlie and his former gang when they follow
the backstabber to California, where they plan to re-steal the gold
by tapping into Los Angeles' traffic control system, manipulating
signals and creating one of the biggest traffic jams in L.A. history!
"The Italian

'Prema Parami'
brings Channa Perera and Sangeetha Weeraratne to star opposite each
other for the first time and others in the cast are Kamal Addararachchi,
Cletus Mendis, Anjula Rajapakse, Manike Attanayake, Ananda Wickremage,
Manel Wanaguru, Nadee Chandrasekara, Nilanthi Wijesinghe, Dilani
Nikahatiya and Bandula Suriyabandara.
Anuradha's father
sends her away from village with the hope of stopping her love affair
with Banuka. Anuradha comes to Neranjala's home in Colombo, Windya,
Neranjala's daughter is happy about the presence of her new friend.
Windya is a model. Neranjala is a shareholder in a hotel in Colombo.
Windya sings
at the hotel and is madly in love with Kolitha. She confides about
her love to Anuradha. Windya helps Anuradha to get a job at the
hotel.
Meanwhile, Banuka
leaves the village and comes to town. There he meets a learned gentleman
and this helps him to be successful in his career.
When a murder
takes place at the hotel Kolitha is determined to find the murderer.
Kolitha and Anuradha fall in love and this makes Windya sad. Later
when Anuradha meets Banuka her affair with Kolitha had gone a long
way.
What will happen
to her affair with Kolitha? Whom will she choose Kolitha or Banuka?
The mini play
has a number of songs sung by Nelu Adikari, Kasun Kalhara and Kamal
Addararachchi to the lyrics of Ajantha Ranasinghe and Nilar N. Kasim.
