Arnold, Kalu smash tons for Western Province

Sri Lanka test discards Russell Arnold and Romesh Kaluwitharana gave a timely reminder to the selectors as they notched up unbeaten centuries for Western Province against Uva Province in the inter provincial game at the R Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

Arnold and Kaluwitharana who are fighting to regain their test places put on an unbroken 278 run partnership for the 4 th wicket as Western Province amassed 423 for 3 wickets in reply to Uva Provinces 235.The pair came together with WP at 145 for 3 wickets and flayed a weak UP attack to take their team to a commanding position.Arnold (111 n.o) faced 174 balls and struck 15 boundaries and a six while Kaluwitharana(149 n o) was more aggressive in his approach stroking 18 boundaries and a six off 229 deliveries.Uva Province led by Chaminda Vaas toiled all day without much success as they were battered all round by Kaluwitharana and Arnold who were in good touch. Earlier opener Pradeep Hewage(64) and Jehan Mubarak(61) put together 122 runs for the second wicket to give WP a flying start.

Kumar(5/66) skittles Southern Province

Kumar Dharmasena caputured 5 for 66 as North Central Province skittled out Southern Province for 184 in their inter provincial game at the Galle International Stadium yesterday.

In replay to NCP 365 all out SP managed only 184 with Saman Jayantha top scoring with a half century.Enjoying a lead of 181 runs NCP finished the second day on 142 for 3 wickets with Mahela Jayawardene and T M Dilshan unbeaten on 42.
