‘Roda Hatara Manamalaya’ has out-of-ordinary plot
‘Roda Hatare Manamalaya’ is both serious and comic story woven around two friends, who have different interests. The miniplay was directed by Sunil Costa and produced by G. Mampitiya.

Palitha Silva, Jayalath Manoratne, Duleeka Marapana, Jagath Chamila, Grace Ariyawimal, Chandra Kaluarachchi, Milinda Perera, Saman Almeida, Daya Dewa Edirisinghe and Bhanu Kodikara form the experienced cast in the drama.

The story starts with Basil, a lorry-owner who is transporting Dhanapala Mudalali’s paddy. Having seen a beautiful lake he forgets the purpose of his visit and gets ready for a bath. There he meets Bandara whom he later invites to be his assistant on the lorry.

Basil’ s mother had sold a property and bought this lorry for him. Thus he became popular in the village as a lorry owner and driver. But Basil didn’t like to be a driver at all. Bandara is completely different to Basil. He hates to be a farmer and was dreaming to own a garage in his village. Basil’s old shabby lorry is precious to him.

But Bandara’s mother doesn’t like her son’s new job in the lorry. She wants him to be a farmer and work in the paddy field. But Bandara is pleading her to allow him to do the job he likes. In-spite of her dislike, she agrees to this. Bandara enjoys working in the lorry even though Basil gets all the hard work done by him.

Meanwhile a schoolmaster Pabilis comes in search of Basil. The stranger is none other but Basil’s former intended father-in-law. He comes because his daughter, Matilda who is adamant and refuses marry to any other but Basil. Basil left his own village because Pabilis’ s family was against their marriage and they had regular quarrels too. Arrogant Matilda’s parents’ who strongly objected to their affair looked down on Basil.

One day Basil meets Ranganath and Kamala. This meeting gives new hopes to Basil’s life. Seeing Kamala Basil develops an attraction towards her. This is because Kamala resembles Matilda. He begins to frequently visit the library where Kamala works.

Ranganath and Dhanapala Mudalali who become aware of the development raise objections. This situation gradually gets worse and Basil finds himself chased away from the village. Dhanapala Mudalali has ulterior motives in sending Basil away from the village. He knew Basil is a threat to his business.

One night Basil along with his friend Bandara returns to the village. This was in order to take away Kamala by force. But they had to face unexpected troubles.

Shot entirely in and around Anuradhapura this thirty-episode teledrama is edited by Kumara Galmuruwa and camera handled by Chandana Dharmapriya. To the music of Navaratne Gamage and lyrics of Mahinda Chandrasekara Sangeeth Wickramasinghe sang the playback songs. Roda Hathare Manamalaya will be telecast every Wednesday at 9.00 pm from February 4 on Swarnavahini channel.
