Searching
for a lost son

The
story in ‘Abuddassa Kalaya’ revolves around Gajanayake
Hamu, a 55-year old- businessman who lives with his aunt Lucy and
faithful servant Piyadasa in a palatial walawwa.
His
wife and elder daughter live abroad and his younger daughter Vindya
is married to Sagara and lives separately. Lucy is slightly mentally
unbalanced. Although no servant could live with her, Piyadasa manages
to do so because of his loyalty to the family. Piyadasa is middle-aged
bachelor as there was no woman willing to marry him.
Regan
a middle-aged man comes in search of Gajanayake; He is an ex-convict
who manages to get in and demand money for services rendered. This
unsettles Gajanayake although he manages to send Regan away after
buying his silence.
Agnes
a widow lives with her adopted son Sadisa. She finds it difficult
to find the necessary funds for Sadisa’s higher education.
Issac is a jobless youth. He manages to find money by hook or by
crook yet he is not a crook. He helps Sadisa and his helper is Machado.
Twenty
years ago Srimathi became pregnant by Gajanayake. He gives Regan
a contract to kill Srimathi but he leaves Srimathi with Agnes. Returning
from jail Regan goes in search of Agnes who tells him that Srimathi
is dead and the child was given for adoption.
Even
now Gajanayake keeps a woman, Kusuma as his mistress and Kusuma’s
main aim is to get his wealth. At the same time she carries on with
her old boyfriend, Namal. Meanwhile Sadisa tries to find out his
past and questions Agnes about his parents. He has fallen in love
with Ruchika but she does not show any interest.
Threatening
to reveal Gajanayake’s bitter past, Regan gets money from
him regularly and one day Regan decides to tell the truth. Delighted
with this news Gajanayake who was regretting about his past decides
to find Srimathi and the child he fathered. But now Regan too is
unable to find them.
Joining
Issae he starts a mission to find Gajanayake’s son and they
come across many hilarious incidents. Would they succeed in their
mission? Who is Gajanayake’s son? What will happen to Gajanayake’s
wealth? Would his daughters come back to him? All these would be
answered at the end Abuddassa Kalaya.
Mahendra
Perera, Suminda Sirisena, Cletus Mendis, Anton Jude, Priya Ranasinghe,
Gamini Hettiarachchi, Elan Sylvester, Sandeepa Sewmini, Nuwangi
Liyanage, Sanjeewa Perera and Berty Gunathilake are some of the
names in the stellar cast in the telefilm.
‘Abuddassa
Kalaya’ is telecast every Sunday at 9.15 pm on Rupavahini
channel. Directed by Christy Shelton Fernando, the miniplay is produced
by veteran actor Joe Abeywickrema.
