‘Clean Out’ - Film Review
Film Director Roy de Silva’s latest film “Clean Out” produced by Sunil Aruna Weerasiri revolves around a married person who is carrying on an illicit love affair with an underworld young lady and got ruined.

Roy de Silva, no doubt would have tried to pass a message to the society in a narrative form, but it is doubtful to what extent it will work where our deteriorated surrounding is concerned. The theme the director has selected has a topical value. Very often we read and hear about underworld gangs.

At the beginning of the film a salesman is told by a customer (Sangeetha Weeraratne) to remove the blouse and lungi of a dummy kept in a Dress Boutique. Main actor’s paramour is posing off as a dummy to avoid his legal wife. It is unnatural that the salesman didn’t realize whether it is a dummy or a real woman from which he removed the clothes.

Rahul Jayajith, a budding actor shows his talents in this film. Roy has given chances to many other amateurs too. It is commendable that the veteran director like Roy has given these prospective actors and actresses for future film sphere.

In another scene a ‘Thovil’ is performed to drive away the apparition believed to be the wife who frightens her husband from time to time. This scene is very humorous as the wife is still alive who is hiding behind the exorcist’s set up made of Gok Kola (Tender coconut leaves).

Usually dead bodies are not brought to undertakers on the shoulders of people for embalming. Since rocky and wickey who are half eccentric would have thought that, that was the normal procedure when they saw the husband bringing his wife’s ‘dead body’ keeping on his shoulder.

Suraj Maapa who plays the role of an underworld thug in ‘Clean Out’ seems to us as the usual lover in teledramas. We don’t see any maturity in his behaviour. Make-up artist could have given him a more rough look. Though the tunes of Sangeeth Wickremasinghe are sweet, the wordings are not much clear. Recordings are too noisy.

Roy de Silva, the director says his film is specially suitable for families. Besides, an entertaining film for children sans of double meaning words and obscene. The other cast include Tennison Coorey, Ananda Wickremage, Wasantha Gunarathne, Rodney Warnakula, Priyantha Senevirathna, Ronnie Leitch, P., Sunil Hettiarachchi, Teddy Widyalankara, Tyronne Michael, Rajitha Hiran Chamikara (Ping-Pong), Anusha Damayanthi, Prasani Thilanka Perera and Nilanthi Dias.

Filmgoers should be thankful to film producers such as Sunil Aruna Weerasiri for coming forward to produce films despite the film industry is on the verge of collapse according to some analysts.

Camera has been handled by G. Nandasena. Edited by Elmo Haliday. Make-up artist is Janaka Ranasinghe. Art Director is Saaliya Dias and the production manager is Wasantha Senananda. Production Executive is Sumana Amarasingha and stills by Mahesh Nishantha. - By Ranjith Bandara Attanayake
