‘Sumedha’ to go on screen
Sumedha’, another film in KAW’s long list, portrays the story of a divorce scheduled to be released from April 30 at Ashoka, Grandpass and other National Film Corporation (NFC) circuit theatres around the country.

With location work at Hunnas Falls and a few other places in Kandy, the film was edited at the Sarasavi Studio in Dalugama. ‘Sumedha’ has got five songs and it will be a treat to the filmgoers of the younger generation, who are crazy over Rukantha Gunathilake’s music.

K. A. W. Perera credited with introducing Premasiri Khemadasa to the screen in his first film “Sanasuma Kothaneda” has invited young music director Rukantha Gunathilake to direct the musical score for his film ‘Sumedha’. Could this move be another hit?

The film unveils tale of Mano, a young musician over, whose voice Sumedha has fallen in love with. They get married but with time Sumedha loses interest in the voice she once dearly loved. The couple realises they live in two different worlds and they think differently.

Attracted by the carefree life style, Sumedha looks upto outward appearances and is keen to find freedom from the hassles of life. Unable to adjust with the changes around, Mano is forced to take the most crucial decision in his life.

“This is a story that is relevant to today’s society on the social issue of divorce for it speaks to both married and those who are waiting for it”, says Mr. Perera who goes on to say, “what I want to question is how can a feeling of love specially a first deep rooted love can be uprooted through a legal process”.

Main roles in ‘Sumedha’ are played by Wasanthi Chathurani, Jayantha Bopearachchi and Roger Seneviratne.
