Niyaz has a dream in Colour
-“Sihinayak
Paata Paatin” is a teledrama based on a cartoon story that
appeared in the 1970s. It will be telecast every Friday from 21
at 9.00 pm on Swarnavahini.
Film
and teledrama director Mohan Niyaz has made this 18-episode miniplay
based on the popular cartoon story titled “Paata Paata Heenayak”
written and published by popular artist Janaka Rathnayake in “Sathuta”
nearly 25 years ago.
The
pathetic love tangle with a background of university life star Anarkalee
Jayathilake, Manjula Kumari, Dinidu Jagoda, Suraj Mapa, Sarath Namalagama,
Maneesha Shayamali, Amila Abeysekara, Indika Ginige, Ajith Lokuge,
Ashoka Peiris and Sanoja Bibile.
Coming
from a rural background and gaining entry to the university through
sheer hard work, Sumedha Alahakoon is a second year student at the
university. Palitha and Jayasinghe are his two best friends at the
campus and his circle friend is enlarged with the addition of with
two freshers Nimali and Inoka who have joined the university recently.
The two girls represent completely different backgrounds; while
Inoka hails from an affluent family from Colombo, Nimali comes from
a distant village in Anuradhapura.
The
entire financial burden of Sumedha’s education rests on his
younger brother who works as a sand miner. His elder brother, Sirisena
Alahakoon is imprisoned on a false murder charge.
Sumedha
who has boxed for his school and continues with it as a hobby after
joining a sports club in Kandy. One day Sumedha invites his two
new girlfriends to witness a boxing match in which he takes part
but is upsets when he sees lnoka in the company of Yohan, a young
man from her boarding house.
This
was because Sumedha preferred Inoka who was free and easy-going
and independent to Nimali who showed a more serious attitude towards
life. At times he disliked Nimali for her approach to certain problems
in life.
At
the end of university education the friends go in their different
ways. But Sumedha realises soon that he could not forget Nimali
and he is more attracted to Nimali and he goes in search of the
girl to Anuradhapura.
What
would be the result of Sumedha’s love? Would he be late? What
is Nimali’s decision? All these questions find answers at
the end of “Sihinayak Paata Paatin”.
In
the technical crew music direction is by Jananath Warakagoda and
the director of photography is Chandralal Manamendra. Mohan Niyas
directed and Sarath Namalgama was producer for SNT Productions.
