‘Clear Water’ in main stream
j‘Clear Water’ is a comparatively new band to break into the music scene. Though they are just few years old, the members are having years of experience behind them.

‘Clear Water’ comprises Janath Kulathilake (Keyboards/leader of the pack), Mariesz Abdul Cader (Vocals), Indika Perera (Drums), Gihan Shalinda (Bass/vocals) and Janaka de Silva (Guitar/vocals).

The band started out two years ago, with an aim that is to be the best, no matter what. And over these past years it has grown close to their goal. The Leader Janath has really committed himself in the making of a fine tuned team as the quality of music and the commitments of the players are unmatchable, said Mariesz, the spokeswoman of the band.

Janath was with the band ‘Heat’ and he has performed most of the top night spots in town. ‘My Kind of Place’, ‘Little Hut’, Hilton, Trans Asia, Bentota Beach, Blue Water are some of the popular places, he performed with Heat.

His musical career started in 1986 with a band called Domz. He was with ‘Saints’ and joined Heat in early 90’s. He has toured Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Maldives, India and Australia with the band ‘Heat’.

Mariesz started off at the age of seven and was trained in Classical and Opera for eight years continuously. She performed with ‘Merry An Singers’. Then turned a new leaf in the year 1999 by taking into modern trends with the Band Dream Team.

She has come a long way since then and has also being featured with some of the leading bands here in Sri Lanka. Performing at The Colombo Hilton, Galadari, Oberoi, Taj Mix Bar, Jaic Hilton, Rythmn and Blues, Clancy’s, Molly’s and Grand Oriental (Blue Leopard Discotheque), in Colombo and Bentota Beach, Palm Gardens, Eden, Grand - Nuwara Eliya, are some of the many places here in Sri Lanka.

She has also toured the Maldives, Oman and Dubai with the bands Mercury, Revelations and also with the Maldivian band ‘2Zee’. Indika was with a band called ‘Dream Shadows’ since 1990 and moved to ‘Breeze’. He was drumming for Breeze till late 2002.

Gihan was with ‘Silver Rings’ and joined ‘Saman and the Clan’. He started his musical career in 1990. Janaka too started with ‘Breeze’ in 1994 and joined ‘Clear Water’ in 2002.‘Clear Water’ was at Mollys till recently and they want to work on original compositions.
