‘Thisara
Peraliya’ deals with human behaviour
By Susitha R. Fernando
‘Thisara Peraliya’ discusses the cause and effect of
behaviour patterns on the basic unit of society called the family
and is telecast every Wednesday at 7.30 pm on Rupavahini channel.
The
young couple Neranjala (Meena Kumari) and Amarabandu (Janaka Kumbukge)
marry after falling in love. Their daughter, Udayangani (Nethmee
Umaya) is eleven years old. Amarabandu (Bandu) has been working
in the middle east for a long time.
Neranjala’s
mother a widow has her own business. Neranjala’s family has
been living here even before Amarabandu went abroad. Neranjala’s
mother Jessica (Priya Ranaisnghe) is a woman of rigid principles.
This may be due to the loss of her husband.
Bandu
is displaced with many other Sri Lankans due to the on going war
in the country. Neranjala seeing a TV newscast is troubled about
her husband’s fate. Their daughter too is depressed about
the risk her father is facing.
Neranjala
meets a teacher Mr. Wijemanne (Buddadasa Vithanarachchi) while she
is trying to get news of her husband. She realizes this is a god-send
when he manages to get information regarding Bandu. Unfortunately
Bandu is dead. Mr. Wijemanna proposes to Neranjala who is now forsaken
with a young daughter.
Meanwhile
Bandu who has managed to hide in a bunker and survive comes home
a few months hoping to meet a loving wife and a darling daughter.
As things have changed he faces Neranjala who is now the wife of
another.
Thisara
Peraliya concludes with the reality that human beings need bonds
and relationships and not withdrawal which happens due to negative
attitudes exhibited with selfishness, irresponsibility and misunderstandings.
It also stresses the value of children in bonding marriage and family
ties effectively. This eighteen episode miniplay is directed by
Sumana Wanninayake and Sunil Liyanage is the producer. |
