‘Jeewithayata
Idadenna’ : Love, smiles and tears
‘Jeewithayata Idadenna’, Ananda Abeynayake’s latest
small screen venture is being embraced with both hands by a wide
section of the local audience and the gripping story is now beginning
to keep you at the edge of your seats.
The
emotional tale which is being telecast on Swarnavahini every Tuesday
at 9.00 pm with a repeat on Saturdays at 11.00 am, dishes out wholesome
family entertainment with a gripping tale revolving around a guy
(Bimal Jayakody) who loses his past memory after a sudden accident.
We
recently met the team while they were busy completing their second
schedule in the cool, picturesque location at Ambewela in Nuwara
Eliya. Gripped by cold weather, thick fog and mist and amidst a
wonderful team wrapped in thick clothing the team was as busy as
bees but looked as cool as cucumber. Surrounded by lush greenery,
the overcast skies and mist-covered mountains produce some breathtaking
and stunning scenes.
As
the camera lingers on Chandani, she transforms instantly and the
award-winning actress for all seasons now becomes ‘Subha’.
Chandani has an amazing smile and it’s fun watching her perform
before the camera. Fixing her eyes on the picturesque mountains
and the Kandaela stream, Chandani speaks to Bimal in a romantic
tone. Bimal responds on the same pitch and the two sit beside each
other hugging themselves warmly.
After
a couple of takes, the shot is okayed by Ananda and Chandani sprints
towards the monitor like a school kid and watches her footage on
the screen. Bimal too joins the fun and within seconds the entire
team form a semi circle round the monitor. The director’s
smile indicates that the scene has come out exactly the way he wants.
A
slight drizzle forces the team to take refuge in the main bungalow
and it worsens the chilly condition. We see Chandani curling her
lips and rubbing her palms together to generate heat. As the drizzle
ceases, we are back in action and this scene requires Chandani and
Bimal enact another scene on a flowerbed with massive roses in full
bloom.
Silence!
Camera rolling and Action!
Chandani is busy trimming a plant while a squatting Bimal is helping
her with a cutting knife. Chandani, drawing in the sweet fragrance
of a beautiful rose, tells Bimal:
“Before
I met you, I used to live in this world. They are very trustworthy.
They only ask for love. And when I give them love, they give me
so much in return….Just like you.”
She
looks at Bimal tenderly, but the director calls ‘cut’
as Chandani is required to look at a lower angle while delivering
the line ‘Just like you’. A little break permits us
to speak to the director and award-winning Ananda Abeynayake tells
us about his creation.
“The
plot for this story came after I met a patient at the Nawaloka hospital
some time ago. He was a youngster who had lost his memory after
an accident. In this story, a young married executive (Bimal) who
goes on an outstation assignment meets with an accident after a
man tries to hijack his car. Finally, the car goes down a precipice.
A charred body beyond recognition is found at the site of the accident.
The family of Bimal removes the body and performs funeral rites.
But it is the body of the hijacker.
Bimal
escapes and moves into the town area but is unable to remember his
past. He meets a young widow (Chandani) living with her two children.
After some time Chandani nurtures a soft corner for Bimal and a
romance emerges between them. Will Bimal regain his memory loss?
Will he marry Chandani? Will his wife (Meena) and mother (Irangani
Serasinghe) meet him when they make a trip to Nuwara Eliya? Finally,
whom will Bimal choose at last - Meena or Chandani?”. Ananda
has found answers to all these questions, but they will unspool
on your screens in the coming weeks.
The
cast of Jeewithayata Idadenna includes Chandani Seneviratne, Irangani
Serasinghe, Meena Kumari and Bimal Jayakody. |
