‘Sasara
Ivuru’: Story of an innocent
Sasara Ivuru is the latest teledrama directed by actor Lucky Dias
is a story about a child who is unaware of her parental origins
and therefore begins to hate her own blood.
This
twenty-four episode play will be telecast every Monday at 7.30 pm
on ITN channel starting from September 13. Having directed miniplays
earlier namely Katharaka Hasareli, Suwanda Obai Amme, Sivdiya Dahara
and Sanda Tharaka, this is Lucky’s fifth teledrama direction.
Playing
one of the leading roles is young Anuradha Weerasekara a girl from
Bishop’s College Colombo who is well versed in both Tamil
and Sinhala is introduced to the mini screen with ‘Sasaraka
Ivura’. Others in the cast are Richard Weerakkody, Avanthi
Aponsu, Nisansala Jayathunga, Amiththa Weerasinghe, Cyril Dharmawardena,
Ruwanthi Mangala, S. Ramanadan, Jagath Benaragama, Vishaka Siriwardena
and Samanthi Lanerolle.
The
story revolves around the issues of politics, love and motherly
affection. It is woven around Austin a Sinhala youth who has come
across a two day old child on the street. A woman had fled leaving
the child. He gives the child to his best friend Nadarajah. Baptised
with a Tamil name her adopted parents keep her identity as a secret.
During
the 1983 riots the family flees to India and after twenty years
with the peace showing signs of comeback return to the country.
And Nadarajah belongs to a somewhat well to do class.
On
his return he happens to meet his old friend Austin who also has
reached a certain level in the society with money and political
power. Austin who was longing for a child now expresses his desire
to see the child who had become a grown up young girl. Nadarajah
couldn’t agree to the request as the girl a Tamil now hates
Sinhala a people-though she has the same blood.
“In
a way this irony, the mistaken identity has caused lot of problems
leading to unending wars in our world today’ Lucky said speaking
about his latest teledrama. I wanted to be different, Lucky said.
The
play was shot entirely in and around Marawila within thirty-two
days of filming. “I should thank the people in the area who
were a immense support to us” Lucky said gratified with the
help he received from the people in the area “if not for them
it would have beein a very hard experience for us” he added.
The
teledrama is filmed by Chaminda Gunathilake and edited by Lalantha
Jayakody. Music director is Somapala Ratnayake and ‘Sasara
Ivura’ is directed and produced by Lucky Dias.
