Hard life of a farmer
The fifth directorial attempt by D. G. Somapala, ‘Nilla Penena Manaya’, portraying a struggle of a farmer, who fights to get the respect due to a farmer, is telecast every Tuesday at 8.15 pm on ITN Channel.

D. G. Somapala who first came into prominence as a photographer and makeup artiste has four teleplays Sandawathaka Varuna, Hima Ketayama, Dedunu Palama 1 and 2 to his credit.

The play revolves around a traditional farming family including its three sons. The head of the family played by G. R. Perera is a conventional farmer who fights to win the rightful place for his vocation.

The father is a determined man striving to give a sound education to his three sons, and to train them for the hard work in the field. The two elder sons complete their education successfully while the younger chooses a different path.

Joining the bad company he is involved in a number of illegal businesses. Finally he leaves the village while his two brothers reach prominent places in society.

Giving himself to more and more evils, the younger brother returns to the village. Joining with another corrupt character there he starts working against the very activities that his brothers and father fought against. Thus begins a fight among the brothers.

The cast with number of newcomers include, G. R. Perera, Deepani Silva, Dharmapriya Dias, Tharaka Udani, Jayanath Bandara, Ruwan Wickremasinghe, Dayadewa Edirisinghe and Himali Sayurangi. The shooting in locations in and around Dambulla had taken nearly one month. The teledrama produced by Saliya de Zoysa for Susila Production is sponsored by Jinasena Limited.
