The young director Sanjaya Nirmal
is busy with the pre-production of his debut film ‘Samara’-
A Modern Fairy Tale produced by the EAP Films. Having recognised
the talents of this young director following his first directorial
attempt ‘Nonimi Yathra,’ a series of ten half-hour teledramas
which were telecast on the Rupavahini earlier, EAP films was ready
to sponsor him to make their latest film.

Jayawardena, Nilanthi Wijesinghe, Hyacinth Wijeratne, Ruwan Wickremasinghe
and child actress Sandali Welikanna.
Speaking
on the film, Sanjaya said that the story is about love and its different
angles. It is a theme very close to every human being, which portrays
the beauty of love.
The
film brings out its realistic face, the sad moments, heartaches
that arise, when two hearts cross. The central character in Samara
is a child and it is an emotional story. The film carries certain
features of popular cinema and ‘Samara’ has five songs.
“All
five meaningful songs are written by versatile lyricists like Sunil
Ariyaratne, Bandara Ehaliyagoda and Somapala Leelananda. Their music
direction is by Rohana Weerasinghe. The songs are sung by Uresha
Ravihari, Rukantha Gunathilake, Nelu Adikari and Morris Wijesinghe.
The
filming is scheduled to start on February 17 at locations in Nuwara
Eliya and Kalutara. Sanjaya will join with a young technical crew
to make Samara. The camera will be handled by Pradeep Bulathsinghala
and the by Asanaka Godamune. The editor Rukmal Nirosh and art director
is Prageeth Wimalaratne.
Asked
about the young technical crew, Sanjaya said the main purpose of
this selection was to bring some fresh ideas and experiments to
the Sri Lankan filmmaking.“Though they are young they are
really talented and clever in their way of thinking”, Sanjaya
said confidently.
“There
will be the glamour and qualities of some popular films but it will
not lose sight of the reality and this film is only about exaggerated
reality”, Sanjaya said with much anticipation about his maiden
direction. |
