‘Maya
Ranga’ deals with mystery and vice

‘Maya Ranga’ a teleplay
woven around mysterious events taking place in a family living in
an upcountry bungalow, is being telecast on Wednesdays primetime
8.35 pm on National Rupavahini channel.
Prof.
Nimal Senanayake famous for his earlier scripts on ‘Ella Langa
Walawwa’, Durganthaya, ‘Maya Mandeera’ and ‘Dhawala
Kanya’ (the translation of The Woman in White) wrote the script
for Maya Ranga.
The
play directed by Anuruddha Jayasinghe consists of a versatile cast
including Dilhani Ekanayake, Nilmini Tennekoon, Palitha Silva, Bimal
Jayakody, D. B. Gangodathenna and Nilanthi Wijesinghe. Maya Ranga
edited by Rukmal Nirosh, camera by Chandana Jayasinghe, art director
Elegedara Ranasinghe and music directed by Ruwan Weerasekara is
a suspense miniplay that will bring entertainment to many.
Manori,
an only daughter born to an affluent family has a heart ailment
from her childhood. Although she looks healthy, she knows that sudden
shocks could affect her fatally. This was the diagnosis given by
her physicians. Living in England with her parents for a long time,
Manori detests the life there and she decides to come to Sri Lanka
with her attendant and her best friend Miula.
Miula
lively young woman worked as a nurse in a hospital before she left
Sri Lanka and she also had taken part in number of stage plays as
an experienced amateur actress. Returning to Sri Lanka and hoping
to get away from the rush in the city, planning to write a play
Manori finds a job in upcountry guesthouse. There they meet Ranjan
who is working for a land Sales Company. He has come to Hatton for
a auction of a tea estate and a bungalow. Manori and Miula join
Ranjan on his visit to estate the following day.
During
their visit they come to know that the tea estate 'Roossagaha Watte'
is cursed by the goddess Kali. This was due to the destruction of
a Kovil there by the previous owner a European. A series of tragedies
follow and the owner and a number of his family members had to pay
with their lives. And this had lowered the demand for the estate
and number of buyers had declined as a result.
Having
visited the estate, Manori gets interested in the property and decides
to buy it and her relationship with Ranjan soon turns in to a love
affair. Despites Miula's opposition Manori marries Ranjan and this
happens even without the knowledge of her parents who are in England.
The couple along with Miula goes to live in Roossagahawatte and
soon there starts quarrels between Ranjan and Miula. Ranjan demands
that Miula be sent away but Manori objects this and Ranjan has to
give her wishes.
It
is at this time that Mahesh, a family friend of Manori who has come
on a holiday from London to visit Sri Lanka is invited by Manori
to spend a few days at Roossagahawatte. Mahesh soon realises that
there is something fishy in Ranjan's behaviour and Ranjan responds
by not getting on well with the visitor. Suspecting Ranjan Mahesh
starts dig into his past and he discovers some enlightening details…
The
curse of Kali seems to be realized when death and destruction follows
the occupants of Roossagahawatte. Will Mahesh unravel the mystery?
Who is behind the havoc caused by the death and destruction? Is
the force natural or supernatural? The final episode of Maya Ranga
will reveal all. |
