‘Anjalica’
targets a wide audience
The Muhurath ceremony for the film 'Anjalica', a maiden directorial
venture of actor Channa Perera and the production of Malith Palliyaguru
was held at the Holiday Inn- Colombo recently.
The
film has some novel features including an Indian actress, Pooja
Umashanker in the lead role and locations selected to be filmed
in Malaysia. This will be a first Sri Lankan film to be shot in
this location.
Speaking
to TV Times the new director Channa Perera said that employing an
Indian actress was mainly an experiment and it also a market strategy
to seek a wide audience targeting many countries.
"It
was not because that Sri Lankan actresses are not talented or not
up to the standard. Our actresses have played in foreign directions
and earned foreign acclaim on a number of occasions. What my aim
is to take the film to foreign audiences including India and Malaysia,"
Channa said. Channa is also hoping to release the film in a number
of foreign countries, where Sri Lankans are living.
Hopefully
shooting on locations in Nuwara Eliya and Colombo will start on
March 3 and continue till April 14 while the rest of the film will
shot in Malayasia.
The
story in Anjalica is woven around a young man Thivanka who was brought
up in England from his childhood after the death of his mother.
'Kavya' was his childhood friend and they are very close to each
other.
Young
Thivanka returns to Sri Lanka and he makes trip to the hill country.
On his way Thivanka meets a young girl Anjalica and from the very
first he gets attracted to her. This meeting follows many dramatic
events ending in a triangular love story.

Perera, Sanath Gunathilake, Rosy Sena-nayake, Anarkalee Jayathilake
and Rex Kodippili are in the stellar cast in Anjalica. Cinematographer
