‘Nadeeladiya’: Tale of revenge

Nadeeladiya is a tale of revenge. A revenge a daughter seeks on behalf of her mother who was molested by an aristocrat and who committed suicide as a result. Thilaka who becomes Pathirage after her marriage to a rich man lives as a recluse.

Volley, a moneylender is a shrewd individual. Pathirage helps him in his business. Sardhananda a just man who is also an aristocrat once loses all his money due to his beloved wife’s illness. He has a daughter and his financial needs for his daughter’s marriage is met by Volley the moneylender.

Meanwhile Pathirage finds out that the culprit Sardhananda’s father responsible for her mother’s death has died. Determined to seek revenge on the son, for the father’s guilt, she targets Sardhananda giving him the money he needs not only for his daughter’s wedding but also for the exorbitant dowry demanded by the groom’s parents.

Pathirage demands that Sardhananda marries her or repay the loan given soon which is practically impossible for him. He agrees to the suggestion under compulsion. Meanwhile Volley the ringmaster of intrigue is remanded. The miniplay takes dramatic turns when Pathirage dies mysteriously and Sardhananda is suspected and remanded.

His daughter Nadeera’s marriage breaks up as a result. Her only refuge is her father’s friend Sirinatha who knows all about the conflicting situations. Returning from jail Volley realises that Naradha, the so-called son of Pathirage has inherited her fortune. Volley objects that Naradha who is seeking a marriage with a daughter from affluent Samarawickrema be given the whole property belonging to Pathirage. But Volley meets with an accident and the suspicion turns on Naradha’s future-in-laws. Naradha and his girlfriend Mary and go abroad.

Meanwhile Nalin who wants to help Sardhananda’s Nadeera agrees to marry a rich elderly woman. His objective is to help Nadeera who refuses help. Although Nadeera refuses his help her father Sardhananda is happy that Nalin has not given her up and so life goes on with its main twist and turns.

The cast in Nadeeladiya are Veena Jayakody, Suminda Sirisena, Kanchana Mendis, Rex Kodippili, Buddhi Wickrema, Vishaka Siriwardena, Senaka Wijesinghe, Manel Wanaguru, Wasantha Kumarasiri, Sunil Hettiarachchi, Charuni Amerasinghe, D. K. Udayasiri, Sriyani Mahawatte, Richard Abeywardena, Wishwanath Migel and Upasena Subasinghe.

Behind the screen, the camera is handled by Dananjaya Pathirana, art director Sirinatha Wickremasinghe and editor Padmala de Silva. To the musical score of Tharupathi Munasinghe, Nanda Malani has sung the playback song. Produced by D. K. Udayasiri Nadeeladiya is directed by Dihan Ekanayake. The miniplay is telecast every Thursday at 7.30 pm on Rupavahini channel.
