In these parking areas no other parking will be allowed from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Colombo City Traffic Director SSP Y.R.M Lafir told The Sunday Times that traffic police will be on high alert and will not hesitate to apprehend anyone who violates traffic laws.

"During previous May Day rallies we found a fair amount of people who drink and drive. If anyone gets caught driving after taking liquor necessary steps will be taken against him," he said.

" Drivers should be civic minded and respect the rights of other road users during the procession. Drivers should avoid driving on the routes of the processions and should also not park their vehicle in prohibited places," he said.

" We have deployed police officers all over the city to monitor vehicles. We plan on keeping the processions going smoothly without any congestion or chaos. Traffic on main roads will be interrupted and diverted as may be necessary," he said.
