‘Pinkanda Simona’:Humour at its best
‘Pinkanda Simona’, the hilarious teledrama written and directed by award-winning film maker Chandraratne Mapitigama is now telecast on ITN every Sunday at 8.15 pm.

The ‘Pinkanda Simona’ cast includes Sriyantha Mendis, Kusum Renu, Mahendra Perera, Anton Jude,Wijeratne Warakagoda,Cyril Dharmawardana, Gayana Sudarshi, Rajitha Hiran, Ravindra Mapitigama, Vasantha Vittachchi, Saman Almeida, Swarnamalee Jayalathge,Channa Galappaththi,Anura Srinath Hettiarachchi, Vinoja Nilanthi, Ishan Gammudali,Srimathi Rasadari,Maneesha Shyamalee,Upali Keerthisena,Nilani Samuarachchi and Nanda Wickramage.

Mapitigama’s previous tele serials Sakisanda Eliyas and Sabanda Pabilis were very popular among tele fans and this is yet again proving his sense of creative ability through Pinkanda Simona. The story portrays the lifestyle of villagers in the 1940s, where the administration was basically at village head level. A drama group led my Mathias Appuhamy reaches the village to stage its drama ‘Saundari’.

The Saraswathi drama troupe from Colombo is popular in every part of the country. Simona is the lead actress in the troupe while the other cast members include Bastian, Shantha Bhai, Don Simon and Lucas.

Karthelis Mudalali, a well to do businessman in the village is the one who arranged to bring down the troupe. The artistes were given accommodation in Karthelis Mudalali’s house. The stage is being built by a group of youngsters led by Sirimal. Meanwhile, the Arachchila invites the drama team for a meal and he is mesmerised by the beauty of the lead actress Simona.

This creates a friction between Karthelis Mudalali and the Arachchila. Meanwhile, a member of the troupe falls in love with the Mudalali’s daughter. After the drama is staged, the villagers are attracted to Simona’s beauty.

The school teacher who was planning to marry Arachchila’s daughter begins to seek the love of Simona. These situations have been interlocked in a creative manner giving the story a humorous outlook.
