UNP gears up for polls

Preparing for the next Presidential Election, Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe kicked off his campaign last Tuesday with the official launch of the Youth Propaganda Force (YPF) at the party headquarters Sirikotha.

Three youths from each polling booth island-wide were summoned to Sirikotha, where they pledged their support to Mr. Wickremesinghe, under the theme, "Apa Peratai - Jaya Apatai" (We are moving forward - Victory is ours).

The YPF is under Gayantha Karunathilake with Akila Viraj Kariyawasm, Sagala Ratnayake and media personnel Buddhika Pathirana and Chandana Sooriya Bandara, recently appointed as organizers in the committee.

Amara Piyasili Rathnayake heads the Women's Force (Lak Vanitha) while Thalatha Athukorala and Chandrani Bandaranaike are to assist her with Rosy Senanayake as coordinator.

P. Dayaratne is in charge of the third force, consisting of three members from each Local Government body - Municipal, Urban Councils and Pradeshiya Sabhas.
