Seevali boxing reaping the harvest
By M. Shamil Amit
Like the glittering gems of their hometown the boxers of Seevali MMV Ratnapura are glittering and have now become a household name in the school boxing fraternity. Having taken to this sport just ten years ago the boys have produced within this short span of time boxers who have gone on to represent the national team with distinction.

The trophies and shields they have won since then are many. Beginning with just two boxers and with none of the facilities that top school in the metropolis enjoy, they have come a long way. The dedication along with the determination of the boys has taken them a long way.

Being highlighted in the media prominently brought them instance result as Caltex Lubricants Lanka Ltd one of the top most private institutions in Sri Lanka made a generous gesture by giving a sponsorship, providing them with all the boxing equipment, they did not stop at that, the company presented the school with a boxing ring which they really needed. That was two years ago in 2002 with the sponsorship being for three years.

The performance of the boys for the three years beyond that was outstanding which naturally prompted the sports minded CEO of Caltex Kishu Gomes to extend the sponsorship for another three years (2005 to 2007).

Kishu Gomes speaking at the handing over ceremony held at the premises of Seevali MMV said that: "we were so happy and encouraged to give the boys more support. Most of the boys are poor but that has not deterred them, they have shown results. We are proud to be a partner in their success".
