Punyakanthi's ‘Punaragamanaya’
'Punaragamanaya' now telecast on Swarnavahini channel is a teledrama based on a short story "The Visitor" written by the prolific Sri Lankan writer Punyakanthi Wijenayake.

The drama is telecast every Thursday at 9 pm. According to the storyline, attractive Irene Dias starts to live with her husband's spirit after his untimely death. And this causes a lot of problems to the family members who gives this young widow accommodation in their house.

"This was not my personal experience" says Punyakanthi jokingly when asked how she got the idea to write such a strange and mysterious story. "I wrote this story in 1963 and it was included in my first short story collection" says the distinguished writer reminiscing about her past. Script writer Somaweera Senanayake wanted to develop this into a lengthy script.

"When I first viewed the full drama I felt it was more cinematic in fact. I asked the director Thusitha de Silva to project it on wide screen" says the writer who was satisfied with teledrama version of her story. But we cannot find this quality when we see it in short episodes interrupted by regular advertisements, Ms. Wijenayake claimed.
