Election officials briefed by polls chief
Assistant Election Commissioners who are in the tsunami affected districts and uncleared areas in the North and East have been given instructions on how to conduct the forthcoming Presidential Elections.

Election Commissioner Dayananada Dissanayake who had brief discussions with the Assistant Election Commissioners at his Secretariat last Tuesday, has stated that they can set up cluster polling stations and alternative polling booths in government-controlled areas for the voters in tsunami affected and Tiger-controlled areas in the North and East.

Mr. Dissanayake also gave instructions that voters who are living in LTTE-controlled areas can be provided free transport to bring them to the closest polling station.

For the tsunami displaced voters in the South who are living in temporary shelters the Commissioner will open up polling stations at the nearest temples, schools and community centres.

Voters who have been displaced and are living in other districts can apply for their ballot papers in the current district.
