Vijaya:
Back to silver screen
Award winning Film Director Udayakantha Warnasuriya’s long
awaited cinematic masterpiece is now running to packed houses island-wide.
The most modern digital technology, combined with a handpicked array
of stars and a gripping story, make Hiripoda Wessa, a magnificent
creation specially designed for today’s filmgoer.
Adorning
the cinema screen in this high profile Sinhala film is veteran broadcaster
and eminent compere, Vijaya Corea, who clearly displays his natural
gift for film acting with aplomb.
In
the early days of the silver screen, he was much sought after by
film directors. Consequently, he starred in ‘Sujeewa’,
‘Sunethra’, ‘Sandamal’i, ‘Onna Babo
Billo Enawa’, ‘Maruwa Samaga Vaasaya’ and ‘Jeevana
Kandulu’ among others, wherein he starred alongside the late
Gamini Fonseka and Vijaya Kumaratunga, Malini Fonseka, Sumana Amarasinghe,
Nita de Silva, Tony Ranasinghe, Geetha Kumarasinghe and Ravindra
Randeniya.
His
unparalleled success in radio and showbiz subsequently did not allow
him the time to continue in films, considering the demands on his
time, the passage of which took him to the helm of broadcasting,
signalling the zenith of his career, as Director General of the
Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation.
Well,
he is back again on the screen, demonstrating his most admirable
gift and talent for film acting in Hiripoda Wessa which contains
every ingredient necessary to thrill filmgoers beyond their expectations.
