‘Sanda Dev Diyani’: A tale of courage and determination
‘Sanda Dev Diyani’, directed by J. A. R. Jayasinghe, a mini play depicting the endurance and courage of two young girls, is telecast every Friday at 8.35 pm on Rupavahini.

Two pretty young sisters Sandaya and Vindaya face life with courage. They are orphans. Living in their ancestral home Vindaya the younger sister continues her higher education at university while Sandaya works. Their relations who came forward to help them have left them in the lurch.

Even their cousin Janaka and his wife Shayama come with the ulterior motive of cheating them out of their inheritance. Sandaya manages to get rid of them. These two sisters who are determined to face life with courage become subject to exploitation of women by society. Two young men who tried to molest these girls were killed accidentally by them. The two girls are now on the run.

This is a story of women who face gender based harassment and discrimination. It is the story of women who are exploited in houses of ill fame. It is also the story of courageous women who live unnoticed lives with courage and determination.

Damitha Abeyratne, Sujani Menaka, Suminda Sirisena, Nalin Pradeep Uduwela, Chamila Peiris, Malani Weeramuni, Gnananga Gunawardena, Sarath Kothalawela, Hemasiri Liyanage, Giriraj Koushalya, D. B. Gangodathenna, Indika Ferdinando, Nilanthi Wijeysinghe, Melani Ashoka, Damitha Saluwadana, Jagath Imbulpe, Nitanjala Manjari, Sanette Dikkumbura, Ranjith Rubasinghe, Sarath Dikkumbura and Chandrasoma Binduhewa comprises the stellar cast.

Edited by Rukmal Nirosh, camera handled by Chandana Jayasinghe, Gayani Satharasinghe did the make up. Screenplay for the 'Sanda Dev Diyani' is by Indika Ferdinando and the producer is Ishantha de Silva and J. A. R. Jayasinghe.
