‘Mage
Kaviya Mata Denna’ : Mano's filmic dream
Talented actor Jayalath Manoratne's latest direction is ‘Mage
Kaviya Mata Denna’ (Give me my Poem). It is a tale woven around
a dream of a young man hoping to become a filmmaker and is telecast
every Thursday at 8.35 pm on Rupavahini.
Written
by young scriptwriter Sanjaya Nirmal, the miniplay stars a blend
of young and experienced actors including Mahendra Perera, Iranganie
Serasinghe, Paboda Sandepani, Roshan Ravindra, W. Jayasiri, Suminda
Sirisena, Srimal Sathyajith and Rebecca Nirmalee. The story is woven
around Ranga, an extremely talented actor and lecturer at an education
institute where aesthetic subjects are taught. Coming from a poor
and rural background but with sheer determination he strives to
overcome all odds.
The
only dream in his life is to direct a film from the script he had
written many years ago. Meanwhile he developes a close friendship
with, Minu Wijebandara one of the students studying under him. Mini
an attractive young woman coming from an affluent family is engaged
to Shenal. But Shenal is mentally unbalanced. Minu's friendship
with Ranga infuriates him and worsens his mental condition. Shenal
decides to eliminate Ranga and consequently knocks Ranga down and
throws his lifeless body into a nearby shrub. Minu who comes to
know this leaves the country.
Years
pass and one day one of Ranga's former students sees a man who exactly
resembles his old teacher. He is a cripple and making his livelihood.
Meanwhile Minu who returns to Sri Lanka on a visit hears that her
beloved teacher is still alive. With the help of the other student
she finds Ranga and they take him for treatment.
Ranga
gets cured. Shenal who hears about Ranga's return gets ill again
and this time he is sent abroad for treatment. Completely cured
once again Ranga starts to dream about his film. Will he realize
his dream? What will happen to Shenal? What is Minu's fate? All
these questions will be answered as you watch the concluding episodes
of 'Mage Kaviya Mata denna'.
Behind
the screen Chandana Dharmapriya handled the camera, Jagath Weeratunge
edited and Suneth Nandalal was the art director. Music direction
was by Navaratne Gamage. To the production of Janaka Siriwardena,
Jayalath Manoratne directed.
