International Montessori in remote village
A Montessori school that provides early education of an international standard is somewhat rare and novel in many rural areas.
A group of lucky children from the remote village of Lunugamvehera in the Hambantota District have got the opportunity of getting an education that is on par with the best in the world.

The Montessori will provide education to about sixty children of poor peasants of the area who would be taught all three languages. In addition the children will be provided with free lunch on every school day.The opening ceremony was held on March 21 under the patronage of First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

Bernadine Anderson, an experienced Montessori teacher presently running two schools in Ratmalana and Connecticut, USA pioneered this project with a dedicated team from the States. Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs.Anderson said that Bridge2Peace is very proud to have been involved in a project that conforms to the vision of President Rajapaksa as mentioned under the Child Development Programmes in the Mahinda Chintanaya and that Bridge2Peace hopes to establish more such Montessoris in other rural parts of the country.

The Montessori is built and sponsored by Bridge2Peace, a non-profit company in the USA while Sri Lankan staff of Scanwell Logistics (Pvt) Ltd too contributed funds to make this project a success. The work of this project was inaugurated by then Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on June 6 ,2005. Bridge2Peace has managed to complete the construction of a building and start the Montessori within a very short span of 9 months.
