Call to probe US visa scam
Chief Opposition Whip Joseph Michael Perera this week called on Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickremanayake to investigate reports alleging that Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Jeevan Kumaratunga was linked to a visa scam.
Speaking during the emergency debate on Tuesday, the Opposition Whip said Mr.Kumaratunga has been named as being involved in the scam regarding US visas.

The case was exclusively reported in The Sunday Times of March 5..
Mr. Perera cited newspaper clippings which had reported the allegations about the visa scam implicating the minister.

“These are serious allegations the newspapers are making. I urge the Prime Minister to look into this matter. If there is some irregularity, action must be taken against such persons.” Mr.Perera said adding that the onus on the Government to act in this regards is greater because a Government Minister has been implicated in the case.

However Mr.Kumaratunga who was present in Parliament on that day chose to stay silent and no other members of the Government side responded to the allegations either.
