Sudath
seeks new talent for ‘Saradiel’
A historical tale based on the life of our local Robinhood or well-known
bandit king 'Uthuwankande Saradiel' is to be made into miniplay
by award winning teledrama director Sudath Rohana.
The
teledrama to be produced for the ITN channel based on a screenplay
by veteran scriptwriter Somaweera Senanayake is in its preproduction
stage and the director Sudath Rohana has invited those interested
in acting to join its massive cast.
The
director is searching for girls and boys aged between 15 and 18
years plus an adult cast from the age group 25-45 years from all
communities Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, Burgher and Malay. The interviews
for those aged between 25 and 45 will be held from 9.00 am to 6.00
pm on Thursday April 20, at Sudharshi hall (opposite the BMICH)
and interviews for those between 15 and 18 years will be held from
9.00 am to 3.00 pm on April 21 at the same venue.
Saradiel
is a story created after extensive study of several historical sources
including the records of the Police and Prison Departments, judicial
records, reports maintained during the colonial administration and
old newspaper articles from the then leading newspapers of that
period 'The Ceylon Times', 'The Examiner' and 'Lak Rivi Kirana'.
Jayalath
Manoratne, Indrajith Nawinna, Champa Sriyani, Richard Weerakkody,
Roshan Ravindra, Ajith Lokuge, Tissa Abeysekera, Shirantha Dharmawardena,
Sathischandra Edirisinghe, Rukmal Nirosh, Jagath Benaragama, Edward
Gunawardena, Janak Premalal, W. Jayasiri, Indika Upamali, Umayangana
Wickremasinghe, Udeni Chandrasiri and Rishard Abeywardena are part
of the stellar cast.
The
technical crew comprises K. A. Dharmasiri, cameraman; Chanaka de
Silva, editor; Hemasiri Ferdinando, art director and Navaratne Gamage
musical director.
