There are three kinds of knowledge in relation to Dhamma. First, knowledge acquired by learning: suthamaya nana. It may be by hearing from someone or by reading. The second is knowledge gained by reasoning: chinthamaya nana; and the third is direct knowledge gained through contemplation or meditation. This is called bhavanamaya nana which is insight knowledge.
