The inauguration of the swimming Pool Fund at Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya was held yesterday at the college Main Hall.

It was been decided to establish this Fund in order to initiate the project of constructing a swimming pool at Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya. The cost of this project has been estimated to be around 17 million rupees which consists a swimming pool with 25MX8 lanes, a kiddies’ pool, changing rooms and shopping arcade of five units.

A steering committee of the swimming pool project was formed under the auspices of the principal of Dharmapala Vidyalaya K.G. Wimalasena. The past Pupils Association of the School which is organizing this event planned to grant the Life Membership Package to the past pupils, parents, well wishers and others those who are interested to engage in swimming using the proposed swimming pool which will come up at Dharmapala Vidyalaya in future.

This Life Membership could be obtained with a donation of Rs. 25,000.00 and the funds collected at this event will be allocated to initiate the construction of the first stage of the proposed swimming pool. The life Membership also covers the whole family of the person who obtains it and such a family will be entitled to use the pool a number of days a month.

The past Pupils Association is confident of collecting around 4 million rupees from this fund raising project since a large number of enthusiastic past Dharmapalians, parents of the present pupils, and well wishers have pledged their whole-hearted support to this endeavour which is carried out with the intention of providing better facilities to the pupils of Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Pannipitiya which have so far been restricted to a few international, private and so called privileged schools.

A sum of Rs. 2 million was donated by the President’s Fund in 2005 for the purpose of constructing a swimming pool at Dharmapala Vidyalaya. Yet, it has been estimated to cost around 6 million rupees for the construction of the first stage of the swimming pool.
