Success at third Reggie Candappa Awards

The third Reggie Candappa Creative Awards – better known as the Reggies – was held on December 13 bringing together the who’s who of Sri Lanka’s advertising industry – from the stalwarts to fledgling creatives alike.

A special exhibition of Reggie’s photography captured in 1958 called ‘One World’ went on display at the event. The theme based on ‘a touch of Red’, was the celebratory colour for the night, which was also a favourite of Reggie Candappa, the organizers said.

The awards were devised as part of the Reggie Candappa Foundation for the Arts’ commitment to nurture the craft of advertising by encouraging and inspiring true creativity. The judging was purely on creative aspects with no commercial influence.

This year the awards drew an enthusiastic response from agencies, production houses and individuals alike – 35 agencies submitted entries in the 12 categories under Print and Television for which awards were handed out. The awards saw a cross section of winners in several categories, where the smaller agencies shone amongst the big names in the industry. Individual winners also made it to the limelight clinching awards in both TV and Print.

As the Fundation strives to bolster the creative talent available in the industry, it also aims to create Scholarships and Exclusive Programmes on Creative Art to assist the next generation of creatives to gather grounding in the craft.

The winners were:

Acid Valley (top award and merit), Admire (merit), Bates Asia (4 awards – 2nd/3rd), 5th Elephant (merit), Grey Worldwide (merit), Grant McCann Erickson (3 top awards, 3- 2nd place, 4-3rd place and 2-merit), JWT (1 each in all four categories), LOWE LDB (top award and 2nd place), Leo Burnett Solutions (7 – 2 top awards, 2- 2nd place and 3- merit), Minds FCB (merit), Market Gurus (merit), Sarva (2 merit), Triad Advertising (2 – 2nd place, 2- merit), V Advertising (3rd place), Vision Works (1 top award, 1 merit), Video Image (2 – 2nd place, 1- 3rd place, 2 merit), X-Ten (Pvt) Ltd (1 top award, 1 3rd place).
