Successful in the FRCS exam in Orthopaedics

Dr. Samuel Susrutha Rajaratnam has been successful in the FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics Surgery) conducted recently by the Joint Boards of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons - London, Edinburgh and Glasgow. He was placed first in the order of merit among the postgraduates who sat the examination in the whole of the U.K.during 2006.

He was also awarded the Sir Walter Mercer Gold Medal in Orthopaedics. The winner of this medal is traditionally invited to become the "Young Ambassador" for the British Orthopaedic Association.

He was educated at Royal College, Colombo and at Haberdashers Aske in Elstree, U.K. where he won colours for Badminton. He did his medical studies at Guys and St. Thomas' Medical School, where he obtained a first class in BSc (Anatomy) and also was elected the President of the Students Union and Treasurer of the oldest rugby club in the world, the Guys Rugby Club. He won the Uni Purple award for badminton from the University of London.

 


Awarded a PhD in Biomedical Sciences

Miss Shamika Udayangi de Silva was awarded a PhD in Biomedical Sciences by the University of London recently.

She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with first class honours in Biochemistry with Biotechnology from the Royal Holloway University of London and won an overseas research student scholarship from the British Government to follow a PhD.
