Mahela intends continuing present momentum
QUEENSTOWN, Dec 30, 2006 (AFP) - New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori wants a vastly improved performance from his inexperienced bowling attack in Sunday's one-dayer against Sri Lanka.
The tourists cantered to an easy seven wicket victory in the opening match in Napier on Thursday, overhauling New Zealand's 285-8 with 10 overs to spare.

Changing batons and the art of bickering
There came a huge controversy when Lankan’s sprint queen Susanthika Jayasinghe refused to change baton with the assigned athlete in Doha and thus chaos followed and finally the country lost a medal that they could have easily won. Now come on…are you surprised? Anyway it has become a way of life in Sri Lanka. Come politics, sports or any other blessed thing people who follow their predecessors forget to carry on playing the tune and suffers in billions of rupees when it comes to politics and medals and matches when it comes to Sports. Even in general life we are better at bickering rather than a “and they lived happily ever-after” ending.

Sri Lanka draw first blood
The last lap of one day games have begun for most of the teams, before gearing up for the World Cup. For three months or so test cricket will be stored away. That underlines the importance that is being emphasized on this once in four year extravaganza.Every team will leave no stone unturned in their preparation for this big month next year. No coach, no captain, no team wants to be found short of preparation.
