Colts edge through to down SSC

Colts CC turned in a fine performance to down SSC by 11 runs in their Premier League Super Eight encounter at Havelock Park yesterday.

In reply to Colts first innings score of 138, SSC had replied with 189. Batting a second time Colts made 157 with H.E. Vithane being the top scorer with 47. K.S. Lokuarachchi (5 for 28) and S.M.Senanayake (4 for 48) bowled a nagging length to restrict the Colts batsmen.

SSC who had to score 101 to win the game were rattled out for 95 with U.A.Prasad claiming 5 for 30.

An unbeaten 114 by Jehan Mubarak enabled CCC to bounce back and score 309 in their second innings against NCC at Maitland Crescent yesterday. CCC were skittled out for 68 in their first innings on Friday and in reply NCC made a determined 285 with W.L.P. Fernando (58), Udara Varuna (35) and M.D.G.M. Bandara (54 n.o) making valuable contributions. CCC spirited return caught NCC unawares. NCC now has to score another 84 runs to win this game with eight wickets remaining.

Bloomfield made a spirited reply by scoring 218 in reply to Tamil Union’s massive first innings score of 536 in their Super Eight fixture at the Sara Stadium.

C.U. Jayasinghe led the run hunt for Bloomfield with a classy 71. On day three Bloomfield lead by 441 runs with three wickets intact.
