CID to quiz Mangala

With sacked minister Sripathy Sooriyarachchi being remanded for alleged misuse of a state vehicle, the CID is now to probe allegations regarding the other sacked minister Mangala Samaraweera amidst speculation he also may be taken in.

Detectives said they would question Mr. Samaraweera soon on allegations by former directors of a cement company.

The cement company’s former directors Nicholas Columnd and Mohamed Maharoof who is a UNP MP, made a statement to the CID last week that the company had given a donation of Rs. 6 million to an organization called the Matara Foundation. They alleged that there was now no trace of the money and they believed there might have been some misappropriation in this organization which was under Mr. Samaraweera.

The detectives said they would also question Mr. Samaraweera regarding the vehicle which was allegedly misused by Mr. Sooriyarachchi.
