Half pension for some pensioners

We pensioners have to thank A.W. Midigaspe for his detailed letter which appeared in The Sunday Times of March 25, on the sad plight of pensioners. The Government has given only a pittance to pensioners on the revision of pension scales.

I wish to add one more fact to what Mr. Midigaspe had stated. An officer retiring today will receive double the pension of an officer who retired prior to 01.01. 2007. Here I have taken into consideration the Executive Grade 2 Class 2 maximum pension which is Rs.16,500 for old pensions and Rs. 32,000 (approx.) for the current pensioner.

I hope the relevant authorities will take early action to remedy this situation. Until such time, as Mr. Midigaspe requests, a 50% increase may be considered with immediate effect to those who retired prior to 01.01.2007.
