Sri Lanka’s apparel industry moves to re-assure buyers

The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), the garments industry’s main umbrella body, said this week that production and export of apparel from Sri Lanka has been unaffected by concerns on the recent attempts by terrorists to destabilize the economic activity in the country.

The security situation is under control and there is no need for undue apprehension, JAFF said in a statement.

“Airlines to and from Sri Lanka continues operating regularly with readjusted day schedules for enhanced security of passengers.
The Colombo port is working without any disruption and all other related services are functioning normally. As you are aware, over the past two decades, the apparel industry has continued to flourish and increase its exports year on year, without any serious disruption.

Even in the aftermath of the Tsunami, which caused enormous disruption to the economy, the apparel industry was able to fully serve the needs of its customers. Many of the production sites are situated in rural areas and as such the effects of terrorist activity doesn’t hamper its operations.

As always the industry will continue to deliver and our valued customers need not entertain any reservations, as to the ability to deliver on our commitments,” it said.
