While watching the first Afro-Asian One Day International which was taking place in Bangalore, suddenly my attention was taken over by a conversation which took place between the famous Indian Journalist cum Commentator Harsha Bhogle and former South African off spinner Pat Symcox who also has taken his place behind the microphone. The topic was coaching and the subject was Graham Ford – a close associate and countryman of Symcox. |

Royal draw first blood |
It was robust, rousing, rib-bruising rugby, spiced with dashes of sizzling running by the back divisions as Royal took a couple of uncertain steps towards winning back the Bradby by beating Trinity by 20 points (1 goal, 2 tries, 1 penalty) to 12 (1 goal, 1 try) at a comfortably full Bogambara Stadium yesterday. |

Canning the rugby worms |
As is common knowledge schools rugby has almost hit rock bottom in many ways. From a cluttered season to numerous court battles, there was more action off the pitch than on it. The proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back happened when referee Pradeep Fernando was allegedly assaulted in the dressing room by Sri Lanka Sevens Captain Chamara Vithanage. From the beginning of the season many have called for the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) to intervene. But it did not happen until last Thursday. |

De Mel vs IC rift gets wider |
The rift between Sri Lanka’s Cricket Interim Committee and their chief selector Asantha De Mel grew wider when the former forwarded a fresh set of names to the Minister of Sports Gamini Lokuge for ratification as selectors sans the name of de Mel. |
