Sudar Oli Editor still in danger

N. Vidyatharan |
Tamil daily Sudar Oli editor N. Vidyatharan, who apparently escaped an attempt to abduct him last Wednesday was promised extra security, but no such measures had been taken upto last evening.
Mr. Vidyatharan said some men who came in a notorious white van to his Wellawatte residence had been stopped by the security guard of the apartment complex.
But one of them had barged in and inspected the premises while others allegedly abused the guard when he asked for their identity cards.
The editor later complained to a presidential committee which is looking into allegations of abductions and disappearances.
Committee members Rajitha Senaratna, M. Baiz, K. Radhakrishna and Vasudeva Nanayakkara visited his residence and assured that more security would be provided.
The Sudar Oli newspaper is highly critical of the government’s policy on the ethnic conflict. |
