New graduate programme in rubber science, technology

The Plastics and Rubber Institute of Sri Lanka (PRISL) recently inaugurated Sri Lanka's first Graduateship Programme in Rubber Science and Technology.

A PRISL press release said the compounded annual growth rate of rubber products industry in Sri Lanka over the last decade exceeds 17% and the industry turnover in 2006 exceeded US$ 500 million. In order to sustain this rapid growth in the industry an equally strong HR development programme has to run concurrently.

The PRISL through this new programme in Rubber Science and Technology has accorded high priority to conducting relevant educational and professional courses with the aim of satisfying industry wide human resource needs.

The PRISL Educational Advisory Committee has recommended that the following areas should be the focus in the Graduateship program; Technical, Human Resources, ICT and Commerce, and General Management.

The aim of the course is to provide students with an overall general knowledge in rubber machinery, industrial safety, effect on inner and outer environments, human resource development, information technology and general management which is an important criterion in assessing the ability and performance of a competent employee in the industry.
