St.Joseph’s,Mahamaya in the lead

St. Joseph’s and Trinity were locked in a grim struggle for honours at the 34th Annual Sri Lanka Schools All Island Swimming and Diving Championships 2007 continued for the third day at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium swimming pool yesterday. The Josephians had collected 259 points and Trinity was close on their heels with 250 points.

In the girls segment Mahamaya Kandy were poised to take the championship title having acquired 195 points while Museaus Colombo were way behind in second place with 148 points at the end of the third day. The championships will draw to a close today.

Two Trinity lads accounted for two records on the third day of the meet. In the 200 metres individual medley Trinity’s C.M.N. Hulangamuwa set up a time of 2:46.88 to set up a new meet record.

In the Under 19 100 meters freestyle Trinity’s C.B. Wickremasinghe splashed through the water to clock 56.78 to set up a new meet record. The other records set up yesterday were, in the Under 9 boys 50 metre breast stroke Sheran De Hoot of St. Peter’s set up a time of 45.62 and in the girls section Miniruwani Samarakoon of Gateway College Kandy clocked 2.43 to set up a new meet record in the Under 15 age group 200 metre Individual Medley
